How to get started in video game translation.

Hi everyone!

My name is Triston, I am a freelance translator (English-Spanish) that focuses on video game translation and localization. I love my job! I get paid to play video games! No, seriously, I call it "the research phase". I have been translating professionally for about seven years now, mostly working in legal/financial sectors, but always wanted to focus on just video games. I have personally translated about 2.5 million video game related words since I started freelancing full-time at the end of 2011. Now I want to help other translators do the same.

Translating a video game can be a difficult job, and sadly, most experienced translators don't work on them. Typically a translator will decide on a sector or industry for their niche, like legal, medical, IT, literary, or engineering, and only rarely branch into unrelated fields. That means that the majority of skilled and qualified translators don't work on games - which is one reason for some of the really poor translations we still see.

I believe that the best way to raise the level of quality in gaming localizations, and to take part in this multi-billon dollar industry, is to raise up my own army of video game translators! So here I am.

I will be sharing tips and tricks, as well as offering some training courses for new translators that want to break into the video game industry. If this is your goal, I am here to help you.

I have another blog running right now: www.opl10nt9n.com, but if things work better here, I will probably transfer everything over.

Please leave a comment, thumbs up, or share, just so I know how many people are interested in what I am doing. Otherwise I'll stick to my other little corner of the internet.

Ciao!
